On this day the winds were as strong as any I have experienced on a beach. If it hadn’t been the only day that I had available to explore Pfeiffer Beach I would have written if off. Most of my time was spent with my camera covered because of blowing sand. A great memory was my Son, Scott and I walking down Pfeiffer Beach with no other people in sight. I mentioned to him that it was a moment to remember, being on a famous beach completely alone, but no one else was crazy enough to be there. I stuck it out until sunset, totally frustrated. The light was bright and harsh so as a last resort I focused tightly on the shaded side of a large rock formation. As I did, the sun was setting on the Pacific and the opening in the rocks began to glow brightly. I timed the waves while standing with my tripod in the surf. The end result was one of my most acclaimed images which I named “The Fire Hole”.
